Character Biographies

Penny Thorne was originally a medical student before she was recruited by the A.I.S., quickly becoming one of their top agents. However, her previous mission ended in tragedy and she has decided to quit the A.I.S. and leave Avalon forever after her latest assignment. Little does she know that this "final" mission will make her question everything she knows and has come to believe about her life as a spy and her place on Avalon.

Dr. Anita "Nita" Baxter was a brilliant professor at MIT specializing in engineering and physics back in 1969. She was mysteriously put into cryogenic stasis mere months before the Earth was destroyed and has now been discovered fifty years later. Nita now has to cope with both the fact that everything and everyone she ever knew is gone and that an evil faction wants her for some nefarious end.

LOLA (Long-range Operations and Logistics Assistant) is Penny’s personal A.I. assistant, the only one of her kind, mostly because of her penchant for ridiculous "mood swings" that is completely uncommon in any other A.I. being used in the system. She provides Penny with tactical information, a heads-up-display that only she can see, and eyeroll-worthy commentary on any and everything.

Ian is Penny’s intelligence analyst and technical expert. He’s a Thol, blue-skinned aliens that were the first refugees to come to Avalon. Their brains can process information 1.4% faster than human beings and they usually take jobs as mechanics, programmers or technicians. Ian has seen firsthand how Penny’s demeanor has changed dramatically since their previous mission, but she keeps him (and everyone else) at arm’s length. She also constantly forgets his birthday.

Dalmore is one of Penny's fellow agents, who thinks of himself as a dashing, irresistible superspy, but lacks the practical skills to go along with his good looks and suave demeanor. Penny usually employs Dalmore's "help" as a distraction or decoy when completing covert operations, much to his annoyance.

Emperor Daeven is the supreme commander of the Sons of Mars. Daeven and his centurions are after Dr. Baxter because she holds some key to the Sons’ plans for conquest. The emperor is also in the process of unearthing a secret that could possibly shatter Avalon’s paradise forever.

Zan "Deadeye" Zanix is a ruthless bounty hunter and a recurring adversary of Penny's throughout her career as an agent of the A.I.S. She possesses a cybernetic eye and right hand, after losing both in her last scuffle with Penny. Now employed by the Sons of Mars, Zan is looking to exact her revenge on her nemesis.

To Live and Die in Avalon is a combination of retro-futurist science fiction serials (inspired by the likes of Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers) and sixties-era spy movies. It’s a fast-paced novel full of action, adventure, intrigue and witty humor. It’s been a labor of love of mine as I’ve always wanted to be a novelist and thanks to the unique platform offered by Inkshares, I now have a chance to make that dream come true.
